About Us

The Promise: What You See Is What You Get

TailRings exists for one reason: to fix the frustration of online shopping.

You know the feeling—you order something that looks perfect in the photos, wait a week for delivery, and open the box to find cheap materials, wrong colors, or something that barely resembles what you ordered. It's disappointing. It's a waste of money. And it happens way too often.

That's why our founder, Dale Peterson, personally tests products on TailRings. If it doesn't meet our quality standards—accurate descriptions, solid build quality, true-to-photo appearance—it doesn't make it onto the site. Period.

We're not a mega-retailer offering everything under the sun. We're a curated shop that focuses on products we think is not only fun, or interesting, but something we'd actually use ourselves. Think of us as the friend who tests stuff first and tells you what's actually worth buying.

How We're Different

We Actually Use What We Sell

Dale personally tests products before listing it. That lighthouse? He used it. Those underbed storage bags? Currently using them. That velvet chair? Sat in it. If something arrives with poor build quality, misleading sizing, or doesn't match its description, it gets rejected—no exceptions.

Unboxing Videos Show You Everything

We work to get those unboxing videos for all the products we can. Unfortunately time is against us on that. But, if you see products without an unboxing video, it's most likely on the way. Those with an unboxing video show you exactly what's in the box, how it's packaged, and what the quality actually looks like. No filters, no marketing fluff—just honest, transparent reviews so you know what you're getting.

Clear, Honest Product Descriptions

We rewrote every product description to give you the real details—measurements, materials, what it's good for, and what it's not. No vague marketing speak. Just the information you need to make a confident decision.

The Origin Story (Yes, It Involves a Cat)

Tail Rings Origin

TailRings started back in 2016 as an idea—a concept for a different kind of online store. Dale went through several name ideas, but nothing stuck until he looked over at his cat, Lynx, and noticed the distinctive orange bands on her tail. "Tail Rings" just made sense, and the name stuck.

Fast forward to early 2023: the website officially launched with a mission to solve the problem Dale had experienced too many times—buying stuff online that looked great in pictures but disappointed in reality.

Based in Minneapolis, MN, TailRings is a small operation that prioritizes quality over quantity. We're not trying to be Amazon. We're trying to be the shop you trust because we actually care about what we sell.

What's Next

As TailRings grows, you'll see more curated products, more honest reviews, and eventually, our own branded items designed from scratch (not just slapping a logo on someone else's product). We've got a list of ideas brewing, and when we're ready to launch them, you'll see announcements in our News blog.

For now, we're focused on what we do best: finding quality products, testing them thoroughly, and giving you the information you need to shop with confidence.
